About Driver Automation Tool
The story behind the tool, the principles that guide it, and the team that built it.
Origin Story
The Driver Automation Tool was built by Maurice Daly to solve a problem every enterprise IT team faces: the repetitive, error-prone process of downloading, packaging, and deploying OEM driver and BIOS updates at scale. What began as a collection of PowerShell scripts evolved into a full-featured WPF application used by thousands of IT administrators worldwide.
The tool is designed as the companion to the Modern Driver Management and Modern BIOS Management solutions — dynamic, web-service-driven approaches to driver and BIOS deployment during OSD and Autopilot. The Driver Automation Tool handles the upstream lifecycle of discovering, downloading, and packaging content from OEM catalogs, while Modern Driver and BIOS Management handle dynamic deployment at imaging time.
Published through MSEndpointMgr.com, the tool combines deep expertise in Configuration Manager, Microsoft Intune, and endpoint management into a single, portable application that automates the entire driver and BIOS lifecycle — from catalog discovery through packaging and deployment.
Design Principles
Three core principles that have guided development from the start.
Minimal Footprint
A portable PowerShell application — no installer, no agent, no background services. Download and run.
Transparent Telemetry
Telemetry is fully optional. Only anonymous package counts are collected — no PII, no credentials, no internal data.
Enterprise Automation
Automate the entire driver and BIOS lifecycle — from catalog discovery to ConfigMgr/Intune deployment — in a single tool.
Modern Driver & BIOS Management Solution
The Driver Automation Tool works with the Modern Driver & BIOS Management solutions published on MSEndpointMgr.com.
The solution has been in production for 10+ years and is maintained by Maurice Daly and Nickolaj Andersen.
